Members can receive a Site Assessment valued at $200 or more, by retired Forester, Dave Schatz to evaluate resource potential. This service is available at no cost for members in Appalachian counties in Ohio (though members are expected to pay mileage expenses).
Participation in RAGA committees including Ginseng Poaching and Marketing Committees
Marketing Assistance and access to herb industry market research
Planting Stock for growers of ginseng, goldenseal, and black cohosh at a competitive price. Members receive a discounted rate on plant stock. (Can inquire about other species)
Discounts on an array of education and training. This includes stand-alone workshops, professional development trainings, workshop series, the annual Landowners Conference, and also training for other non-profit organizations on capacity building.
The Grapevine , a free bi-annual newsletter highlighting the Rural Action Forestry Program activities, and interesting forestry information from around the region.
Literature and research on the best growing methods for many herbs (as requested).
Discounts on Books about sustainable forestry, the farm industry, and more.
Access to Demonstration sites of woodland herb plantings for reference on best cultivation methods.
Advice on exploring land management strategies and assistance in choosing reputable consulting foresters.
Connection to the Appalachian Forest Resource Center and its research projects, some initiated by The National Center for the Preservation of Medicinal Herbs .
Connection to top professionals and experts in Forestry and Agroforestry.
Membership within Rural Action , allowing opportunities to participate in various programs involved in community renewal through work in economic, social and environmental initiatives. Members also receive Rural Action's Annual Report highlighting the activities Rural Action is involved in and an open invitation to The Annual Dinner for all community members.
